Dezső Ránki (born September 8, 1951) is a famous Hungarian concert pianist. He is known for playing many different kinds of music. He has also made lots of recordings of his solo, duo, and concerto performances.

Life and Career
Dezső Ránki was born in Budapest, Hungary. He started taking piano lessons at the Budapest Academy of Music when he was just eight years old. When he turned thirteen, he joined the Budapest Conservatory. There, he studied with Klára Máthé from 1964 to 1969.
After that, he continued his studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music from 1969 to 1973. His teachers were Pál Kadosa and Ferenc Rados. Some of his classmates became very famous pianists too, like András Schiff and Zoltán Kocsis. Dezső Ránki and Zoltán Kocsis even appeared in two Hungarian documentaries together!
International Success
Dezső Ránki's international career began when he won first prize. This was at the Robert Schumann International Competition in Zwickau. Since then, he has performed all over the world. He has played in Europe, Scandinavia, the USA, and Japan.
His musical range is very wide. He plays music from the Classical period, like pieces by Mozart and Beethoven. He also performs Romantic works by composers such as Schumann and Brahms. He even plays modern pieces, including those by Kurtag. He was the first to perform the piano concerto (1984) by Zsolt Durkó.
Collaborations and Awards
Ránki has played with many famous orchestras. These include the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed with the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Orchestre National de France. He has worked with well-known conductors like Sir Georg Solti, Lorin Maazel, and Zubin Mehta.
He has received the Kossuth Prize twice. This is the highest cultural award in Hungary.
Since 1985, Ránki often performs piano duets with his wife, Edit Klukon. They have a son named Fülöp Ránki, who is also a talented pianist. Dezső Ránki has also been a professor at the Ferenc Liszt Academy in Budapest.

Dezső Ránki has made many recordings, mostly for Hungaroton. His large collection of recordings includes works by famous composers. He has recorded pieces by Bartók, Schumann, Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, and Liszt, among many others. He has also recorded duo pieces with his wife, Edit Klukon, and with his former classmate, Zoltán Kocsis.
