Dezső Ránki (born September 8, 1951) is a very talented Hungarian concert pianist. He is known for his amazing piano playing and has recorded many different kinds of music. He has performed solo, with other musicians, and with orchestras.
Life and Career of Dezső Ránki
Dezső Ránki was born in Budapest, Hungary. He started learning to play the piano when he was just eight years old. He went to the Budapest Academy of Music for his first lessons.
When he was thirteen, he joined the Budapest Conservatory. From 1964 to 1969, he learned from a teacher named Klára Máthé. Later, from 1969 to 1973, he studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. His teachers there were Pál Kadosa and Ferenc Rados. Some of his classmates became famous pianists too, like András Schiff and Zoltán Kocsis. Dezső Ránki even appeared in two Hungarian documentaries with Zoltán Kocsis.
Dezső Ránki's career took off when he won first prize at the Robert Schumann International Competition. This competition was held in Zwickau. After that, he began performing all over the world. He played in many countries in Europe, as well as in the USA and Japan.
He plays a wide variety of music. This includes classical pieces by composers like Mozart and Beethoven. He also plays romantic music by Schumann and Brahms. And he performs modern works by composers like Kurtag. He even played the very first performance of a piano concerto by Zsolt Durkó in 1984.
Ránki has performed with some of the world's most famous orchestras. These include the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also played with the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Orchestre National de France. He worked with well-known conductors like Sir Georg Solti, Sándor Végh, Lorin Maazel, and Zubin Mehta. For his contributions to culture, he was given the Kossuth Prize twice. This is the highest cultural award in Hungary.
Since 1985, Dezső Ránki has often performed piano duets with his wife, Edit Klukon. They have a son named Fülöp Ránki, who is also a very talented pianist. Dezső Ránki has also taught piano as a professor at the Ferenc Liszt Academy in Budapest.
