Sultana Dhaain, also known as Sultana Rehendhi Dhaain Kabaidhi Kilage, was a queen who ruled the Maldives. She was the leader of this island nation from 1383 to 1388. Her full title was the "Lady of twelve thousand isles, the Sultana of the Maldives."
Who Was Sultana Dhaain?
Sultana Dhaain was a very important figure in the history of the Maldives. A "Sultana" is a female ruler, similar to a queen. She was the daughter of a previous ruler, Sultan Mohamed I of the Maldives. After her father passed away, she took his place on the throne.
Her Time as Ruler
Sultana Dhaain's reign began in 1383. She was one of the few women to rule the Maldives in its long history. Her time as queen lasted for five years. During this period, she was the highest authority in the island nation.
Why Did She Step Down?
In 1388, Sultana Dhaain was asked to give up her position. This is called "abdicating" the throne. She stepped down in favor of her husband. After she abdicated, her husband became the new ruler, known as Sultan Abdullah II of the Maldives.
