Dharahara (Nepali: धरहरा) was a famous tall tower in the city of Kathmandu, Nepal. It stood in the center of an area called Sundhara. This amazing building was once 61.88 meters (about 203 feet) high and had nine floors, or "storeys." It was a very important landmark for many years. Sadly, the tower was destroyed in a big earthquake on April 25, 2015.

What Was Dharahara?

Dharahara was a very tall and well-known tower located in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was a special landmark that people could see from far away. The tower was built with nine levels, like a stack of nine tall rooms. It stood at a height of 61.88 meters, which is about the same as a 20-story building today.

Who Built Dharahara?

The Dharahara tower was built a long time ago, in the year 1832. A powerful leader named Bhimsen Thapa ordered its construction. He was a very important person in Nepal's history, serving as the Prime Minister.

What Happened to Dharahara?

Sadly, the original Dharahara tower was badly damaged and destroyed by a big earthquake. This powerful earthquake happened on April 25, 2015. The tower, which had stood for over 180 years, collapsed during the natural disaster. Many people were very sad to see this important landmark fall.
