Dharmapuri district is a cool place in the Tamil Nadu state of India. It's one of the 38 districts in Tamil Nadu. This district was created on October 10, 1965. It was actually the very first district made in Tamil Nadu after India became independent!

The main town and headquarters of the district is Dharmapuri. Long ago, this town was known as "Thakadoor." In 2011, about 1,506,843 people lived here. For every 1,000 boys and men, there were about 946 girls and women. Most people in Dharmapuri district can read and write. About 91.2% of people are literate, which is much higher than the average for all of India.

Hogenakkal Falls

The famous Kaveri river flows through this district. At a place called Hogenakkal, the river turns into a beautiful waterfall! This waterfall is known as Hogenakkal Falls. It's about 46 kilometers (around 28 miles) from Dharmapuri town. Many people visit to see the water crashing down.

Theerthamalai Temple

Another important place to visit is the hill-temple at Theerthamalai. This temple is in a part of the district called Harur taluk. It's a very old and holy place for people who follow the Hindu religion. This temple has been around since the time of the Chola and Vijayanagara empires, which were powerful kingdoms many centuries ago!
