Diana Morant Ripoll, born on June 25, 1980, is an important Spanish politician. She has been the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities for Spain since July 12, 2021.
Before this, she was the Mayor of Gandia, a city in Valencia, from June 2015 to July 2021. She also became the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party of the Valencian Country in 2024. Diana Morant started her political journey with the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) in 2011.

Early Life and Education
Diana Morant was born in Gandia, Spain, on June 25, 1980. She is the older of two sisters. She went to Abat Solà Middle School and María Enríquez High School in Gandia.
She later studied Telecommunications Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). She finished her studies and graduated in 2007.
Political Journey
Starting in Local Politics
After working as an engineer for three years, Diana Morant began her political career. In February 2011, the Mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Orengo Pastor, invited her to join politics. She became a candidate for the PSPV-PSOE party in Gandia. This party is the Valencian branch of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party.
In the local elections held on May 24, 2011, she was listed fifth on the party's candidate list. The PSPV-PSOE won 10 seats in the city council. On June 11, 2011, Diana Morant officially became a councilor for Gandia. For the next four years, from 2011 to 2015, she worked as a member of the opposition in the city council.
Leading the Party in Gandia
In May 2014, the leader of the PSPV party in Gandia, José Manuel Orengo, stepped down. Diana Morant, who was the Secretary of Organization at the time, decided to run for the leadership position. In June 2014, she was chosen as the new Secretary-General of the socialist party in Gandia.
Later, in October 2014, Diana Morant participated in the party's process to choose mayoral candidates. Since no one else ran against her, she was named the socialist party's candidate for Mayor of Gandia in the 2015 Spanish local elections.
Becoming Mayor of Gandia
The municipal elections in 2015 had several parties competing. The PP won 12 seats, PSPV-PSOE won 7, Més Gandia won 5, and Citizens won 1.
Three weeks after the elections, on June 13, 2015, Diana Morant received support from other parties. With the help of councilors from PSPV-PSOE, Més Gandia, and the mayor from Ciudadanos, she became the Mayor of Gandia. This ended four years of government by the PP party. She served as mayor until July 11, 2021.
National Role as Minister
Diana Morant resigned as Mayor of Gandia in July 2021. This was because Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez nominated her for a new important role. She became the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities for Spain.
