Diana Morant's Early Life and Education
Diana Morant was born in Gandia, Spain, in 1980. She is the older of two sisters. She went to school in Gandia, first at Abat Solà Middle School and then María Enríquez High School.
After high school, Diana studied Telecommunications Engineering at the Technical University of Valencia. She worked hard and finished her degree in 2007.
Starting Her Political Journey
After working as an engineer for three years, Diana decided to try something new. In 2011, she was asked to join the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) in Gandia. This party is a big political group in Spain.
She became a candidate for the local elections in Gandia. She was elected as a councilor on June 11, 2011. A councilor is like a local representative who helps make decisions for the city. For four years, from 2011 to 2015, she was part of the opposition in the city council. This means her group worked to question and improve the plans of the ruling party.
Leading the Party in Gandia
In 2014, Diana took on a bigger role in her party in Gandia. She became the Secretary-General of the socialist party in the city. This meant she was in charge of leading the party's activities and plans in Gandia.
Later that year, she was chosen to be the party's candidate for mayor of Gandia. She was the only person who wanted the job, so it was an easy choice!
Becoming the Mayor of Gandia
In the 2015 local elections, Diana Morant's party didn't win the most seats. However, she worked with other political groups to form a team. On June 13, 2015, with the support of these groups, Diana Morant became the Mayor of Gandia. This was a big moment because it ended four years of a different party being in charge.
As mayor, she was responsible for leading the city and making important decisions for its people. She served as mayor until July 2021.
Becoming a National Minister
In July 2021, Diana Morant was given an even bigger job. The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, asked her to become the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities. This meant she would be in charge of science and new ideas for the whole country! To take on this new role, she had to step down as Mayor of Gandia.
Since 2024, she has also been the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party of the Valencian Country. This shows her continued leadership within her political party.
