Diane Thome (1942-2025) was an American composer. She wrote music for many different instruments and groups. Diane learned to play piano from famous teachers like Dorothy Taubman and Orazio Frugoni. She also studied how to compose music with several important composers, including Milton Babbitt.

Diane Thome's Life and Musical Journey
Diane Thome was a very dedicated student. She earned two degrees from the Eastman School of Music. She also received a Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Later, she earned two more advanced degrees from Princeton University. Diane made history at Princeton. She was the first woman to get a Ph.D. in music from that university.
Teaching and Composing Around the World
After finishing her studies, Diane Thome became a professor. She taught at the University of Washington School of Music. She even became the head of the Composition Program there. Her music has been performed in many places. People have heard her compositions in Europe, China, Australia, Canada, Israel, and the United States.
Diane was also a composer-in-residence. This means she spent time at places like the University of Sussex. She also worked at the Chamber Music Conference in Vermont. Her music was even played on French radio.
