You can buy the Diari de Vilanova in several areas, including Garraf, Barcelona, Vilafranca del Penedès, and Baix Penedès. Every week, about 7,500 copies of the newspaper are sold. It also has around 1,680 people who subscribe to it, meaning they get it delivered regularly.
A Long History of News
The Diari de Vilanova started a very long time ago, on August 1, 1850. It was founded by Josep Pers Ricard in a town called Vilanova i la Geltrú. Back then, it was a small newspaper called Diario de Villanueva and it came out every day. It was also published in the Spanish language.
Changes Over Time
In 1920, the newspaper changed from being a daily paper to a weekly one. This meant it came out once a week instead of every day.
During the late 1930s, there was a difficult time in Spain called the Spanish Civil War. During and after this war, it was hard for newspapers to publish regularly. The Diario de Villanueva was only printed sometimes during these years.
In 1942, the newspaper was given permission to start publishing regularly again. Many years later, in 1976, Spain was going through a big change towards democracy. At this time, the newspaper changed its name to its current Catalan name, Diari de Vilanova.
Modern Times for DV
By 2015, like many newspapers, the Diari de Vilanova was selling fewer copies and making less money. A company called Edicions Comarca 17 bought the newspaper. They changed its short name to DV and launched a brand new website. This helped the newspaper continue to share news with its readers in a modern way.
