Richard May (born November 7, 1930 – died June 9, 2009) was a famous NASCAR driver. He raced in 185 events in the NASCAR Grand National and Winston Cup Series between 1967 and 1985.

Richard May's Racing Journey
Early Days on the Track
Richard May started his racing adventure at the St. Lawrence Valley Speedway in Canton, New York. He spent a lot of his early career racing at the Watertown Speedway. He even became the Track Champion there in 1962!
NASCAR's "Pinch Hitter"
Richard May was known as NASCAR’s "pinch hitter." This means he was a very important driver who could step in and help other teams. He was great at getting cars ready for races and, most importantly, he was known for avoiding crashes. Some people think he raced in over 500 NASCAR events in total! For example, in a 1975 race called the Mason-Dixon 500, May drove five different cars.
Life After Driving
After he stopped racing, Richard May continued to work in NASCAR. He became a NASCAR inspector until 2003. This means he helped make sure all the race cars followed the rules. In 2007, he was honored for his amazing career when he was added to the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame.
