Dicksonton is an extinct town in Perry County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An "extinct town" means it was once a busy place but is now empty or gone.

The Story of Dicksonton

Dicksonton was started in 1875 by two people, George Detwiler and W. H. Price. They created the town to support a special kind of work: mining. People came here to dig for valuable resources like coal and iron ore from the ground.

Life in Dicksonton

By the year 1883, Dicksonton was growing. About 100 people lived there. The town had important places like a general store, where people could buy everyday items. It also had a post office, which helped people send and receive letters.

Why Dicksonton Disappeared

The main reason Dicksonton existed was for its mines. When the coal mine and the general store closed in 1897, the town began to shrink. Without the mining jobs, people started to move away. Eventually, the Dicksonton post office was closed in 1908. This meant the town was no longer active, becoming what we now call a "ghost town."
