Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway facts for kids
The Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway (DNSR) was a train line in England. It ran from Didcot in the north, through Newbury, and down to Winchester. This railway was built a long time ago, opening in different parts between 1882 and 1885.
It was planned to go all the way to Southampton. But, because there wasn't enough money, it never quite made it. So, trains heading to Southampton had to use a different route.
The DNSR line stopped running between 1960 and 1962. Today, some parts of the old railway have been turned into fun cycle paths. There are even plans for a cafe, called the "Handlebar Cafe", along one of these cycle routes near Winchester.
