Die Muminfamilie (which means The Moomin Family) was a special TV show from West Germany. It aired between 1959 and 1960. This series was the very first time the beloved Moomin books by Tove Jansson were brought to life on television!
The show was filmed in black and white. It was broadcast by a German TV channel called ARD. Die Muminfamilie was also the first TV series ever made by a famous German puppet theater company, Augsburger Puppenkiste. In total, 12 episodes were created for this pioneering show.

What is Die Muminfamilie about?
Die Muminfamilie tells stories about the Moomins, who are a family of friendly, hippopotamus-like creatures. They live in Moominvalley, a peaceful place where they have many adventures. The show brought the magical world of Moominvalley to viewers for the first time on screen.

Even though it's an old show, Die Muminfamilie has been released for people to watch at home! It was included in a special DVD box set. This set featured other early children's TV shows that were also made in Germany by the Augsburger Puppenkiste. This means new generations can still enjoy this classic Moomin series.
