Who Was Diego Ronquillo?

Diego Ronquillo came from a family that was already involved in leading the Philippines. He was either the brother or the nephew of the previous governor, Gonzalo Ronquillo de Peñalosa. This connection meant he stepped in as a temporary leader.

Diego Ronquillo took over the role of governor after his relative. He became the leader of the Philippines on March 10, 1583. His job was to manage the Spanish colony and its people. He was in charge for just over a year.
