Diego Ronquillo was an important leader in the Philippines long ago. He served as the fifth Spanish governor of the islands. His time as governor lasted from March 10, 1583, until May 1584.
Who Was Diego Ronquillo?
Diego Ronquillo came from a family that was already involved in leading the Philippines. He was either the brother or the nephew of the previous governor, Gonzalo Ronquillo de Peñalosa. This connection meant he stepped in as a temporary leader.
Becoming Governor
Diego Ronquillo took over the role of governor after his relative. He became the leader of the Philippines on March 10, 1583. His job was to manage the Spanish colony and its people. He was in charge for just over a year.
A Challenging Time
