Diego de Ocampo facts for kids
The Diego de Ocampo is the highest point in the Cordillera Septentrional mountain range. You can find it in Santiago Province, in the Dominican Republic.
Why is it Called Diego de Ocampo?
This mountain is named after a person called Diego de Ocampo. He was a leader who lived in the mountains a long time ago. He used to hide there and cause trouble for plantations in areas like Concepción de la Vega and San Juan de la Maguana.
Diego de Ocampo made a deal with the Spanish authorities, but he soon started rebelling again. Later, Spanish troops caught him. This happened around the year 1546.
