Digawolf facts for kids
Digawolf is a cool Canadian music group. They come from Yellowknife, which is in the Northwest Territories. This band is special because they sing in two languages: English and Tłı̨chǫ Yatıì. They are famous for being nominated for a Juno Award two times! The Juno Awards are like the Grammys for Canadian music. They were nominated for Indigenous Music Album of the Year. Their album Distant Morning Star was nominated in 2010. Later, their album Yellowstone was nominated in 2020.
Meet the Band's Leader
The main person in Digawolf is a singer and songwriter named Diga. He is from a place called Behchokǫ̀. Diga started his music journey in a group called Northern Band. Before forming Digawolf, he released two solo albums. One album was under his own name, and another was using the stage name Diga. He picked the band's name, "Digawolf," in a clever way. "Diga" means wolf in the Tłı̨chǫ Yatıì language. He added "wolf" in English because he often had to explain what "Diga" meant to his audience. The first album by the full band, Distant Morning Star, came out in 2009.
Band Members and Big Awards
Over the years, different talented musicians have played with Diga. For example, on their 2015 album Great Northern Man, TJ Buggins played bass and David Dowe played drums. Later, for the Yellowstone album, Nik Heyman was on bass and Peter Dombernowsky played drums.
Diga himself has also been recognized for his songwriting. For the album Great Northern Man, he was nominated for an award. This was at the 12th Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2016. He was nominated for Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year.
Sharing Their Music
To help promote their album Yellowstone, the band appeared on a national radio show. In 2019, they were on the CBC Radio program Q. They performed two of their songs, "Elexe Together" and "Northern Love Affair," for listeners across Canada.
