Story of Digimon Next
Tsurugi Tatsuno loves to compete in virtual Digimon battles. One day, a real Kuwagamon Digimon appears in the human world. Tsurugi's Greymon suddenly comes to life and protects him.
A Digimon named Piximon then calls Tsurugi to the Digital World. He needs Tsurugi's help to save their world from the evil Barbamon. Tsurugi's Greymon is special because it has a hexagon shape. This means it is an Illegal Digimon, which can help save the Digital World.
Greymon later changes back into Agumon. Tsurugi and Agumon meet other characters who are also meant to help save the Digital World. They must stop Barbamon and his helpers. Barbamon wants to collect all the special "DigiMemories" to take over both the Digital and human worlds.
Main Characters
Tsurugi Tatsuno and Agumon
Tsurugi Tatsuno first had a Greymon as his partner. During a battle, Piximon made Greymon change back into Agumon. Agumon later learned to Digivolve into GeoGreymon. Then, during a fight with Shou and Yatagaramon, GeoGreymon could Digivolve into RiseGreymon.
In the System World, Tsurugi gets a special device called the Digivice Twin R. With this, RiseGreymon Digivolves into VictoryGreymon. After defeating the big enemy NEO, VictoryGreymon turns to stone. He is then reborn as a Digi-Egg, ready for a new adventure.
Yuu Inui and Gaomon
Gaomon is the Digimon partner of Yuu Inui. Tsurugi and Agumon first meet them when Gaomon tries to steal from them. After they defeat a Tankdramon, Yuu and Gaomon join Tsurugi. They help him stop Barbamon.
Gaomon later Digivolves into his stronger form, MachGaogamon. In the System World, Yuu gets the Digivice Twin L. This allows MachGaogamon to Digivolve into Z'dGarurumon. After helping to defeat NEO, Z'dGarurumon also turns to stone. He is then reborn as a Digi-Egg.
Ami Kitajima and Pichimon
Pichimon is the Digimon partner of Ami Kitajima. Ami is a friend of Tsurugi who doesn't like battling much. At first, their role in the story is a mystery.
Later, it's revealed that Pichimon holds the DigiMemory of Water. Pichimon can also Digivolve into MarineAngemon. Ami and Pichimon are kidnapped, and Pichimon's DigiMemory is taken. With Ami's help, Pichimon breaks free and Digivolves into MarineAngemon to fight NEO. Ami has a crush on Tsurugi.
Shou Kahara and Peckmon
Shou Kahara's Digimon partner is a black Peckmon. Peckmon holds the Bird Digi-Memory, which Barbamon wants. Shou first appears as a hacker called "the Black Winged Knight." He attacks Tsurugi Tatsuno.
Peckmon fights Tsurugi's Greymon, causing it to change back into Agumon. Peckmon later Digivolves into Yatagaramon. Shou learns that Barbamon planned to get rid of him. After this, Peckmon Digivolves into Ravemon.
Shou met Norn when he was young and fell in love with her. He started to dislike Tsurugi because Tsurugi seemed to forget about Norn. Barbamon noticed Shou's anger and saved Peckmon. Shou then became Barbamon's helper. In the end, Shou says goodbye to Norn and returns to the human world.
Barbamon
Barbamon is the main villain in this manga. He took control of the Digital World's main computer, located in the System World. Barbamon wants to take over the Digital World. To do this, he gathers a large army of Digimon and even gets Shou to help him.
Barbamon needs the eight "DigiMemories" to change the Digital World as he wishes. It is later revealed that he was combined with Yggdrasil. Tsurugi and VictoryGreymon defeat him. However, he manages to finish creating NEO before his defeat.
Commandments
Barbamon has many Digimon working for him. These include Digimon like Sealsdramon, Waspmon, and an army of Commandramon. His main leaders are the 3 Commandment Commanders: Chaosdramon, Murmuxmon, and Zanbamon. Even after being defeated, these commanders return for the final battle against NEO.
Datamon
Datamon works as a strategist for Barbamon. He spies on Shou and Norn. Datamon created a Hot Spring Paradise and controlled an Angewomon robot. When he tried to take the Water DigiMemory from Pichimon, Pichimon Digivolved into MarineAngemon, and Datamon had to retreat. He later helps in the final battle against NEO.
Piximon
Piximon is like a supervisor in the Digital World. He is against Barbamon and calls a human (Tsurugi) to the Digital World to fight him. Piximon is badly hurt by Sealsdramon, who steals his Holy DigiMemory. He recovers and reappears during the final battle against NEO.
Andromon
Andromon is another supervisor in Light City in the Digital World. Chaosdramon kills him. However, a message from him reveals that he put a virus in his DigiMemory. This virus makes part of NEO not obey Barbamon.
Norn Mikihara
Norn is a girl held captive by Barbamon. Yggdrasil sent her to learn about the bond between humans and Digimon. She becomes friends with Tsurugi, Yuu, Ami, and Shou. She tells them to always fight for Digimon. Shou falls in love with her. Norn is actually the true spirit of Yggdrasil.
Yggdrasil
Yggdrasil lives in the System World and is considered the God of the Digital World. After sending Norn to the human world, Barbamon forced Yggdrasil to merge with him.
NEO
NEO is an artificial Digimon created by Barbamon. All 8 DigiMemories are needed to complete him. NEO starts as a small black blob. It grows by merging with the Holy and Insect DigiMemories. It gains an arm and fiery hair after getting the Water DigiMemory.
After Barbamon is defeated, NEO absorbs more DigiMemories and data. It becomes a nearly complete human-like form. NEO then defeats VictoryGreymon and Z'dGarurumon. It steals the last DigiMemories to become fully complete. NEO plans to destroy both the human and Digital Worlds. It wants to replace them with worlds of its own design.
Eventually, NEO starts to lose control of the DigiMemories. After a big battle, NEO breaks back into the 8 DigiMemories. It finally understands the strong bond between humans and Digimon.
DigiMemories
The 8 DigiMemories are special pendants. They are what stops Barbamon from taking over the Digital World. He will do anything to get them all. If he collects them, he wants to rebuild the Digital World as he sees fit. After NEO is defeated, it turns back into these 8 DigiMemories. They then help rebuild the Digital World.
Here are the 8 DigiMemories:
