Dillwyn, Kansas facts for kids
Dillwyn is a small, unincorporated community located in Stafford County, Kansas, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local city government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, it's managed by the county government. Dillwyn is found southwest of a larger town called St. John. It's situated right next to a railroad, near the intersection of NW 10th Road and NW 70th Avenue. You can find it about one mile north of U.S. Route 50, a major highway.
History of Dillwyn
The history of Dillwyn is quite brief, but it tells us a little about how the community once operated.
Early Post Office
A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. It's often a central part of a community. The very first post office in Dillwyn was opened in the year 1888. This would have been an important service for the people living there at the time.
Post Office Closes
However, the post office in Dillwyn did not stay open forever. It was permanently closed down by the year 1927. The closing of a post office can sometimes mean that fewer people live in an area, or that mail services have changed over time.
