Dimonique "Dime" Davis (born October 4, 1985) is an American director and producer. She is known for directing episodes of the TV show Boomerang. She also helped lead the second season of that show.

Davis was the main director and executive producer for the first season of HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show. For her work on this show, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2020. She was the first Black woman ever to get this nomination for directing a variety series.

Early Life and Education

Dime Davis grew up in Houston, Texas. She went to a special high school for performing arts. After high school, she studied at Chapman University, graduating in 2008.

Interestingly, she went to the same high school and college as director Justin Simien. She also attended with actress Elle Lorraine.

Starting Her Career in Film

In 2015, Davis joined a special program called the AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women. During this workshop, she created a short film called Sugar. Actress Elle Lorraine starred in this film.

In 2018, she started working as a writer and story editor for the TV show The Chi. This was an important step in her career.

Directing and Producing Work

Notable Projects and Achievements

The LACMA asked Davis to make a short film. This film, called Wild Wild West: A Beautiful Rant by Mark Bradford, was about artist Mark Bradford. It was shown for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018.

After seeing this film, Lena Waithe invited Davis to work on the show Boomerang. Davis directed eight episodes of the show. She also became a co-leader for the second season.

In 2019, Davis directed the first season of A Black Lady Sketch Show for HBO. This show was created by Robin Thede. Davis's directing work earned her a 2020 Primetime Emmy nomination. This was for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series. It was a historic moment, as she was the first Black woman to receive this nomination.

Future Plans

In 2020, Dime Davis started her own production company. It is called Three's A Crowd. She started it with Elle Lorraine.

Davis is currently working on an animated movie. This movie will be based on her short film Sugar.
