In 1960, Djalma Bastos de Morais became an army officer. He studied at the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras in Resende. This is a special school for training army leaders. Later, in 1966, he finished his engineering degree. He studied at the Instituto Militar de Engenharia in Rio de Janeiro. This education helped him understand how things work and how to build them.

His Career in Communications and Energy

After his studies, Djalma Bastos de Morais used his skills in important roles. From 1990 to 1993, he was the president of a company called TELEMIG [pt]. This company was in charge of telephone and communication services in Minas Gerais state.

On December 23, 1993, he was chosen for a very big job. He became the Minister of Communications for the Brazilian government. He worked under President Itamar Franco. As minister, he helped manage how people communicated across the country. He held this important position until January 1, 1995.

Later, he became the president of another major company. This was Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (CEMIG). CEMIG is a company that generates and distributes electricity. It helps bring power to homes and businesses in Minas Gerais.

His Passing

Djalma Bastos de Morais passed away on December 25, 2020. He died in Rio de Janeiro from COVID-19. This was during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil.
