Djaran Whyman's Football Journey
Djaran Whyman had a short but interesting journey in Australian rules football. He played as a small forward, which means he was usually closer to the goals, trying to score points for his team.
Early Steps in Football
Djaran first got a chance to play for an AFL club called Hawthorn in 2002. He was on their "rookie list." This list is for younger or less experienced players who are still developing their skills. However, he soon went back to playing football in his home country area.
Joining the Kangaroos
In 2006, Djaran got another big opportunity. He was recruited by the Kangaroos Football Club, also known as North Melbourne. He joined them from the North Ballarat Football Club. At this time, he was 179 centimeters (about 5 feet 10 inches) tall and weighed 77 kilograms (about 170 pounds). He was again placed on the Kangaroos' rookie list.
Moving to the Senior Team
Djaran worked hard and was promoted to the Kangaroos' main team, called the "senior list," in 2007. That year, he played really well for North Ballarat, which was a team linked to the Kangaroos in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He kicked 15 goals in total. In some games, he scored a lot of goals, like five goals in one match and four goals in another!
He also played well for the Kangaroos' reserve team. He was named among the best players four times.
Making His AFL Debut
Djaran Whyman made his first ever appearance in a senior AFL game on July 22, 2007. This was in Round 16 of the season. He played against the Melbourne Demons at a stadium called the Telstra Dome. In his very first game, he managed to kick 2 goals and 2 "behinds." Goals are worth 6 points, and behinds are worth 1 point.
After the Kangaroos
After the 2007 season ended, Djaran Whyman was delisted by the Kangaroos. This means he was no longer part of their team.
