Milbert E.S. McKenzie (born April 29, 1949), known by his stage name Doc McKenzie, is a famous American gospel musician. He began his music career in 1990. Doc McKenzie has released several albums that have become very popular. Many of his albums have even appeared on the well-known Billboard music charts. He is especially known for his inspiring gospel songs.

Doc McKenzie's Early Life and Nickname
Milbert E.S. McKenzie was born on April 29, 1949. His hometown is Olanta, South Carolina. His parents, Leroy and Cora McKenzie, were farmers. His family went to St. Mark's Holiness Church in Lake City, South Carolina.
Milbert's pastor, Bishop R. C. Eaddy, gave him his nickname "Doc." He called him "Doc" because Milbert was very good at fixing things. Milbert started leading his church choir when he was only six years old.
Forming The Hi-Lites
Doc McKenzie's sister, Beronzy McKenzie, and his cousin, Handy McFadden, started a music group. They called the group The Hi-Lites. For some time in the 1960s and 1970s, they lived in Paterson, New Jersey. In the mid-1980s, they moved back home. This is when they began their professional music recording careers.

Doc McKenzie started his recording career in 1990. He released six albums with different record labels. These labels included Atlanta International Records, Savoy Records, and Meltone Records.
Charting Albums and Success
One of his big breakthrough albums was Ride with Jesus. It came out on October 22, 1996, with First Lite Records. This album became very popular. It reached No. 28 on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart.
On September 15, 1998, he released another album called Live. This album was also with First Lite Records. Live did even better, reaching No. 21 on the Gospel Albums chart.
His album Renewed was released later on September 1, 2009. Ophir Records released this album. Renewed was a big success, climbing to No. 14 on the Gospel Albums chart. These albums show how much his music connected with people.
