Doctor Coss is a city and a special area called a municipality in Nuevo León, Mexico. It's about 182 kilometers (113 miles) northeast of Monterrey.

The city and municipality are named after Dr. José María Coss. He was an important politician in the 1800s who believed in freedom and progress. In the year 2000, about 2,246 people lived in the whole municipality. Around 1,000 of those people lived in the city of Doctor Coss itself.

History of Doctor Coss

The first small town in this area was called Paso del Zacate. It started around 1745. Families from nearby places like Los Aldamas and General Bravo moved there.

Almost 100 years later, Paso del Zacate became a "villa." This was a special title given by the government of Nuevo León. Finally, on October 7, 1882, the municipality of Doctor Coss was officially created. It brought together Paso del Zacate and several other small towns. These included Zacate, Soledad, El Ebanito, La Lajilla, Los Chorros, Tecomate, Lucero, Las Mujeres, and Gachupines.

Geography and Nature

The municipality of Doctor Coss covers an area of about 664.6 square kilometers. It shares its borders with the state of Tamaulipas to the north. To the east, it borders General Bravo. To the west, it borders Los Aldama and China.

Doctor Coss is located 134 meters (about 440 feet) above sea level. This makes it one of the higher places in the state. The San Juan River also flows through this area.
