A Look at Doctor González's History
The story of Doctor González began a long time ago. The first people settled here on October 21, 1694.
Early Settlement: Hacienda de Ramos
Spanish settlers first called this area Hacienda de Ramos. This region is part of what was known as the Salinas Valley. The Salinas Valley was a very important area during the time when New Kingdom of León was being settled.
Why "Salinas"?
The word 'Salinas' means "salt flats" in Spanish. This name was given because the land had a lot of natural salt. This salty land was great for raising livestock like cows and sheep. Many ranches and farms were built here in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.
Becoming Doctor González
In 1883, Hacienda de Ramos officially became a municipality. It was then renamed Doctor González to honor José Eleuterio González.
