Where is Los Ramones?
Los Ramones is located in the middle-west part of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. It's about 226 meters (741 feet) above sea level. You can find it on a map at these coordinates: 25°42′N 99°37′W / 25.700°N 99.617°W.
It shares borders with several other municipalities in Nuevo Leon:
- To the North: Cerralvo
- To the South: General Terán
- To the East: China, Nuevo Leon and Los Herreras
- To the West: Cadereyta Jiménez, Pesquería and Dr. González
The total area of Los Ramones is about 1,378.8 square kilometers (532.4 square miles).

The southern part of Los Ramones has a mild climate. The average temperature there is between 12 and 18 degrees Celsius (54 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit) each year.
The northern part is very hot and dry. It doesn't get much rain.
The rainiest months in Los Ramones are May and September. They get about 600 millimeters (23.6 inches) of rain on average. The lowest temperature ever recorded was -8 degrees Celsius (17.6 degrees Fahrenheit). The highest was 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit).

How Many People Live Here?
In 1990, about 6,538 people lived in Los Ramones. This meant there were about 5 people per square kilometer.
A small number of people, about 0.30% of the population, spoke native languages. The main native language was Huasteco, followed by Náhuatl.
By the year 2000, the population had slightly decreased to 6,237 people. Out of these, 3,134 were male and 3,103 were female.

The Main Town and Villages
The main town and government center of the municipality is also called Los Ramones. About 1,300 people live there. This town is located 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of Monterrey, the state capital.
The municipality of Los Ramones has 102 smaller communities or villages. All of these villages have fewer than 500 people. Some examples of these villages include Altamira, Casa Blanca, El Porvenir, La Gloria, Los Angeles, and San Antonio.
History
How Los Ramones Started
Los Ramones was founded by Francisco Plácido Rodríguez Baca in the late 1700s. He was a descendant of Captain Diego de Rodríguez, one of the first Spanish settlers in Nuevo Leon.
The main town of Los Ramones is built on land that was originally given to an early settler named Alférez José Ochoa de Elejalde.
In 1847, the people of Los Ramones asked the state government for a change. They wanted to leave the municipality of Cerralvo and join Cadereyta Jiménez. The state government agreed. So, on November 7, 1847, Los Ramones became part of Cadereyta Jiménez.
Later, on September 5, 1915, Los Ramones became its own independent municipality.
In 2010, the local police station faced a difficult situation, leading to the police force leaving their posts.
