About Doctor Pedro P. Peña
A Village on the Border
Doctor Pedro P. Peña is known for its unique location. It sits directly on the border with Argentina, making it a key point in the region. The village is part of the Boquerón Department, which is one of the largest departments in Paraguay.
The River's Change
Around 2006, something big happened that changed Doctor Pedro P. Peña forever. The Pilcomayo River, which flows nearby, suddenly changed its course. This natural event caused a lot of damage and destroyed most of the village.
Because of this, the people living there had to leave their homes. The village was abandoned, and a nearby mission, also called P. P. Peña, moved about 8 kilometers (5 miles) north to a safer location.
