Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Dodo is a small, unincorporated community located in Clark County, Ohio, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or a town. Instead, it's usually part of a larger county.

Exploring Dodo's Past

The history of Dodo began a long time ago, in the early 1800s.

How Dodo Started

In 1814, a gristmill was built on a stream called Honey Creek. A gristmill is a special kind of mill that uses water power to grind grain, like wheat or corn, into flour. This mill was the very first building at the spot that would later become Dodo.

The Dodo Post Office

Later, in 1884, the community got its own post office. It was named Dodo, which is how the area got its official name. The post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for many years, until 1901, when it finally closed down.
