Early Band Days
Dominic Scott went to Tonbridge School in Kent, England. There, he met the people who would later form the band Keane. In 1995, Dominic and his friend Tim Rice-Oxley decided to start a band. They wanted to play songs by famous groups like U2, Oasis, and The Beatles. They also asked Richard Hughes to play the drums.
The Lotus Eaters
From 1995 to 1997, their band was called "The Lotus Eaters." They practiced and played music together.
Becoming Keane
In 1997, the band changed its name to "Keane." They also invited Tim Rice-Oxley's friend, Tom Chaplin, to join as the main singer. This completed the lineup for the early version of Keane.
Leaving Keane
Dominic Scott left Keane in July 2001. This happened after the band released a song called "Wolf at the Door." It seems he left because he had different ideas about music compared to Tim Rice-Oxley. Tim was also a main songwriter for the band.
A Friendly Departure
Dominic's departure from the band was friendly. On November 14, 2001, Keane shared a message on their official website. They said that Dominic decided to leave the band in July to go back to his studies. The band wished him well. They also mentioned that Dominic's leaving gave them a chance to try new sounds. They wanted to explore more electronic and calm music. The band felt their sound was still "unmistakably Keane," meaning epic and dreamlike. They believed they had captured new energy and atmosphere in their recordings.
