Don Bachardy was born in Los Angeles, California. He loved art from a young age and went to study at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. He also studied at the Slade School of Art in London, England.
In 1953, when he was 18, he met the writer Christopher Isherwood, who was 48. They became lifelong companions and stayed together until Isherwood passed away in 1986. Their close relationship was the subject of a 2008 movie called Chris & Don: A Love Story.
Bachardy had his very first solo art show in London in 1961. His drawings of Isherwood were often used for the covers of Isherwood's books.
A Career in Art

Bachardy became a very successful artist. He had many art shows, called exhibitions, in big cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City. His art is so important that it is part of the main collections of famous museums.
