  • Lord of Escalona: He was also the second Lord of Escalona from 1283 to 1348.
  • Lord of Peñafiel: Another important title he held from 1283 to 1348.
  • Royal Steward: He served as a high-ranking official for the king, managing royal affairs, during two periods: 1311-1314 and 1318-1319.

Don Juan Manuel's most famous book is "Book of Examples of Count Lucanor and Patronio," usually just called "Count Lucanor." He finished this book in 1335.

The book is made up of five parts. The first and largest part contains 51 short stories. In these stories, Count Lucanor asks his wise advisor, Patronio, for advice on different problems. Patronio always answers by telling a story that teaches a lesson. These stories are often about everyday life and offer practical wisdom.

Don Juan Manuel's Family

Don Juan Manuel was married three times during his life. He also had a daughter named Guillaume Manuel de Villena. She later married Juan Martinez de Leiva, who was the lord of Baños.
