Donald L. Tucker (born July 23, 1935 – died September 24, 2019) was an American politician. He is best known for serving as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. He was an important leader in Florida's government for many years.
Early Life and Education
Donald L. Tucker was born in Tallahassee, Florida. When he was 17, in 1952, he attended Florida American Legion Boys State. This is a special program where young people learn about how government works. He was even chosen to be the program's Governor that year.
Later, he went to the University of Florida. In 1962, he earned his law degree, which is called a Juris Doctor degree. This education helped him prepare for his future career in politics and law.
Political Career
Donald L. Tucker served in the Florida House of Representatives for many years. This is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state of Florida.
From 1974 to 1978, he held a very important position. He was the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. The Speaker is like the leader of the House. They help guide discussions and make sure laws are passed fairly. He was the 49th person in a long line of Democrats to hold this powerful role.
Legacy
Donald L. Tucker left a lasting mark on his community. In 1977, a major building in Tallahassee was renamed in his honor. This building is the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.
Today, it is known as the Donald L. Tucker Center. It is a large arena where many events take place. It is home to the Florida State University Men's and Women's basketball teams. Other local sports teams also play there. It is a popular spot for concerts and other big gatherings too.

Donald L. Tucker passed away in 2019. He was 84 years old. He died after battling cancer. His work as a politician and his contributions to Florida are still remembered.
