Donald Malloy, born on November 28, 1955, is an American gospel musician. He became well-known for singing with the New Jersey Mass Choir. He was a featured singer on their 1985 song, "I Want to Know What Love Is." This song was originally recorded with the rock band Foreigner.

Malloy started his solo music career in 1986. His album Holy Spirit was released that year. However, his solo career really took off in 1990. That's when he released There Is No Limit with Atlanta International Records. Many of his albums have appeared on the Billboard magazine charts. They were specifically on the Gospel Albums chart.

Donald Malloy's Early Life

Donald Malloy was born in Cheraw, South Carolina. His birthday is November 28, 1955. He is the son of James Robert and Loreain Malloy. Donald was the fifth child in his family. His mother noticed his musical talent very early on. She quickly put him in the choir at Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church. There, he sang solos.

Today, Malloy is a music minister. He works at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Rev. Milton Biggham is the senior pastor there. Donald also studied at Lincoln Business School. He earned a degree in Business Management.

Donald Malloy's Music Journey

Donald Malloy first became famous as a member of the New Jersey Mass Choir. This choir had just worked with the rock band Foreigner. They collaborated on the popular song "I Want to Know What Love Is" in 1984/85.

In 1985, the New Jersey Mass Choir released their own version of this song. Donald Malloy was one of the main singers on this recording. It was the title track of their album that year. The album featured gospel versions of other popular songs.

Starting a Solo Career

Malloy began his solo music career in 1986. His first album was called Holy Spirit. But he found more success a few years later. In 1990, he released There Is No Limit. This album was a big step for him. It reached No. 39 on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart.

His next album, Everything Will Be Alright, came out in 1993. It was released with A&M Records. This album did even better, reaching No. 27 on the same chart. In 1994, he released Hold on to the Promise with Light Records. This album charted at No. 36. Another album, Jesus Reigns, was released in 1999.

Donald Malloy is married to June. They have two children together, Jessica and Christopher. The family lives in Newark, New Jersey.
