Discovering Dongola
A Look Back in Time
Dongola was first planned and settled in the year 1851. It's thought that the community was named after a place far away: Dongola, a city in Sudan, Africa.
In 1851, an important service came to Dongola: a post office was opened. This allowed people living there to send and receive mail, connecting them with the rest of the world. The post office served the community for several years before it closed down in 1862.
