Donkey Hodie is a fun American educational TV show for kids. It first aired on May 3, 2021, on PBS Kids. The show gets its ideas from the characters created by Fred Rogers for his famous Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. It's the second spin-off show from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, following Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. The show helps kids learn important lessons while having a good time.
What's the Story?
The show takes place in a magical land called Someplace Else. This place is just north of the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, which you might know from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. In Someplace Else, Donkey Hodie and her friends have exciting adventures every day. They work together to solve different problems and learn new things along the way. Each episode teaches a valuable lesson about friendship, problem-solving, or trying your best.
Meet the Characters
The show features a wonderful group of puppet characters. Many of them are inspired by or related to characters from the original Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.
- Donkey Hodie is the main character. She is the granddaughter of the original Donkey Hodie from the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Haley Jenkins voices her.
- Duck Duck is a new character created just for this show. She is not based on any character from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Stephanie D'Abruzzo voices her. Stephanie also voices Harriet Elizabeth Cow, who is a character from the original Neighborhood of Make-Believe.
- Bob Dog is voiced by David Rudman. Bob Dog is a friendly character from the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. David Rudman also voices Grampy Hodie, who is Donkey Hodie's grandfather and the original Donkey Hodie character.
- Purple Panda is another character from the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Frankie Cordero voices him.
- Clyde the Cloud is a brand new character, just like Duck Duck. Peter Linz voices him.
- King Friday is the ruler of the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Matt Vogel voices him.
- Game Show Gator is another new character created for Donkey Hodie. Joey Mazzarino voices him.
How the Show Was Made
In January 2020, it was announced that a new show based on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood was being planned. This new show would feature Donkey Hodie. The character was updated to look more modern, but still kept her classic felt-faced puppet style. The main character, Donkey Hodie, is the granddaughter of the original Donkey Hodie character from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. On January 28, 2021, the show's website was launched. It showed off the new logo and the catchy theme song.
Music in the Show
Just like Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, this show uses both brand new songs and updated versions of classic songs from Fred Rogers' collection. The music for Donkey Hodie was created by Bill Sherman, Zack Zeyde, and Noah Deblasis. Their music helps make the show fun and engaging for viewers.
