Donkville is a small place in Madison County, Illinois, in the United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it is a group of homes and buildings that does not have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it is part of the larger county.
History of Donkville
Donkville has a short but interesting history. A special office for sending and receiving mail, called a post office, was opened here in 1901. People could send letters and packages from this office. However, it only stayed open for a few years, closing down in 1907.
The community was named after a person named Emile Donk. He owned a mine in the area. Naming places after important people or features nearby was a common practice back then.
