Donna Marie Britt is an American author and journalist. She used to write for many newspapers across the country as a columnist, reporter, and critic. Her first book, Brothers (& me): A Memoir of Loving and Giving, was published in 2011. It shares stories about her family and experiences.

Growing Up and Learning
Donna Britt was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. Her father, Thomas, worked in construction, and her mother, Geraldine, worked in insurance. Donna went to West Side High School in Gary. After high school, she earned a degree in film from Hampton University.
Later, while studying for her master's degree at the University of Michigan, something very sad happened. In 1977, her older brother, Darrell, passed away in a difficult situation. This event deeply affected Donna and her family. She later wrote a lot about what happened and how it changed their lives.
Her Career in Journalism
Donna Britt started her journalism career in 1980 at the Detroit Free Press. There, she worked as a reporter, wrote feature stories, and even had a column about fashion. She also worked as an editor and film critic for USA Today.
In 1989, Donna joined The Washington Post. She became very well-known for her opinion columns, where she often wrote about important social, cultural, and racial topics. Her weekly column was published in newspapers in over 60 cities and was shared widely by the Washington Post Writer's Group.
Her Book: Brothers (& me)
In 2011, Donna Britt published her book, Brothers (& me): A Memoir of Loving and Giving. This book was recognized by O: The Oprah Magazine as one of the top books to read in January 2012. Parts of her book were also featured in Essence magazine that same month.
Family Life
Donna Britt is married to Kevin Merida, who is also an author and a top editor at the Los Angeles Times. In 2012, Donna and Kevin were named one of the most influential African American couples by HuffPost.
They have three sons:

- Darrell Britt-Gibson (from Donna's first marriage)
- Skye Merida
Donna is also very interested in well-being and meditation. She has been teaching yoga since 2004.
