Her Life and Music Journey
Dora Draganova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. Her father, Illya Draganov, was also a composer, so music was a big part of her life from the start!
She went to the State Academy of Music to study how to write music. She learned from famous teachers like Parashkev Hadjiev and Vesselin Stoyanov. After finishing her studies in 1972, she started teaching.
Dora Draganova taught piano at a music high school. She also taught music harmony at a dance school. For many years, from 1971 to 1991, she helped edit a magazine called Native Song, which was about choir music.
She has won awards for her amazing work. In 1999, she won first prize for her musical play Pippi Long-Stocking. This play was based on the popular children's book by Astrid Lindgren. Her collection of piano pieces called Children’s Corner also won an award from the Union of Bulgarian Composers.
