Early Life and Learning
Doris Dörrie was born in Hanover, Germany. She finished her high school studies there in 1973. That same year, she started studying film at the University of the Pacific in California for two years. Later, she continued her studies in New York. While in New York, she worked different jobs, like in cafés and showing films at the Goethe-Institut.
In 1975, Doris Dörrie returned to Germany. She then began studying at the University of Television and Film Munich.
Her Work
Doris Dörrie started her career by writing movie reviews for a newspaper called Süddeutsche Zeitung. She also worked as an assistant editor there. After that, she volunteered at different TV stations and made short documentary films.
Besides making movies, Doris Dörrie has written many books. These include novels, collections of short stories, and even books for children. She has also directed and put on several operas, which are plays where the story is sung.
