Dorsey's Search is a village in Columbia, Maryland. It is named after a piece of land owned by John Dorsey way back in the 1600s. This land was near the Patuxent River. Over many years, the land changed owners several times. Eventually, a large estate called Dorsey Hall was built there.

What is Dorsey's Search Village?
Dorsey's Search is one of ten villages that make up the planned community of Columbia, Maryland. It was named after the historic land tract. About 7,500 people live here as of 2014.
The land for Dorsey's Search was bought by the Rouse Company in 1968. The company planned to create a new kind of community. There was even a plan for a "Central Park" area with a high school and county offices. Dorsey's Search village officially opened in 1980.
Neighborhoods and Location
The village has two main neighborhoods: Dorsey Hall and Fairway Hills. It is the northernmost village in Columbia. Part of it is located north of Maryland Route 108.
The famous Dorsey Hall Manor House is located in this village. It is a historic building from the 18th century. Many of the street names in Dorsey's Search come from the writings of American author Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.. The Fairway Hills neighborhood is built on what used to be a golf course.
What Services are in Dorsey's Search?
The Dorsey's Search Village Center opened in 1989. It has a community center called Linden Hall. You can also find a grocery store, restaurants, and other shops there.
The name Linden Hall comes from a poem called "Musa" by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.
Recreation and Fun
Fairway Hills Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course in the Fairway Hills neighborhood. It opened in 1995 and has Bermuda grass fairways.
There is also an outdoor swimming pool in the Dorsey Hall neighborhood.
