Doug Cox, born in 1952, is an American politician from the state of Oklahoma. He is a member of the Republican Party. Mr. Cox served as a representative in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He represented the 5th district from 2004 until 2016.
Early Life and Education
Doug Cox studied at Oklahoma State University. He earned his first degree there in 1974. Later, he went to the University of Oklahoma. He completed his medical degree in 1978. After finishing his studies, he worked as a doctor. He specialized in emergency room medicine.
Serving in Government
Doug Cox was first elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2004. He won with more than half of the votes.
In the 2008 election, some groups tried to stop him from being re-elected. They thought he was not conservative enough for a Republican. However, Mr. Cox was still successfully re-elected. He won with a large number of votes.
Mr. Cox had strong beliefs about certain health topics. In 2014, he disagreed with some members of his own party. They had suggested a plan about health care coverage.
In 2016, Doug Cox could not run for re-election. This was because of a rule called "term limits." This rule means a politician can only serve for a certain number of years.
