Douglas LeAllen Williams (born September 3, 1956) is an American singer and songwriter. He is well-known for his solo gospel music and for being a part of the famous group, The Williams Brothers. Doug Williams began his solo career in 1995 with his album Heartsongs. This album was so successful that it earned him a nomination for a Grammy Award, which is a very important music award. Early Life and Family Music
Doug Williams was born on September 3, 1956, in Smithdale, Mississippi. He grew up in a family deeply involved in music. His father, Leon "Pop" Williams, started The Williams Brothers gospel group in 1960. Doug is the youngest of his siblings. His older brothers, Melvin Williams and the late Franklin Delano Williams, are also talented musicians. This means Doug grew up surrounded by gospel music and a strong family tradition of singing.
