Douglas Lee Miller (born December 31, 1949 – died February 5, 2021) was an American gospel singer and songwriter. He began his music journey in 1984. His first album, I Still Love the Name Jesus, was a big hit. It was one of six of his albums that made it onto the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart. He worked with several record labels like A&M Records and Light Records.
Early Life and Music Start
Douglas Lee Miller was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, on December 31, 1949. He grew up singing in his church choir. Later, he went to the University of Akron. There, a famous musician named Mattie Moss Clark helped him improve his singing skills. She also featured him in special "Midnight Musicals." Douglas became known for his deep, rich singing voice, called a baritone.
Douglas Miller's Music Career
Douglas Miller started his recording career in 1984. His first album, I Still Love the Name of Jesus, was released by Atlanta International Records. This album was very popular and reached No. 5 on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart.
He had five more albums that also became very successful on the charts:
- In 1985, his album Unspeakable Joy reached No. 6.
- Also in 1985, Redeeming Love peaked at No. 22.
- In 1988, Sing until Morning went up to No. 14.
- His 1990 album, Living at the Top, reached No. 15.
