Who Were the Doustioni?
The Doustioni were a group of Native American people. They were also called the Dotchetonne. We only know about them from old records. These records come from a French explorer named Sieur de la Salle.
Where Did They Live?
The Doustioni tribe lived in the area around the Gulf of Mexico. Some people think they lived in northeastern Texas. But this has not been clearly proven.
Another idea comes from a historian named John R. Swanton. He thought they were a Caddoan group. This means they spoke a language similar to the Caddo people. Swanton believed they lived near Bayou Dauchite in northwestern Louisiana. However, this idea is also not confirmed.
Friends of the Kadohadacho
The records from Sieur de la Salle's trip tell us one important thing. The Doustioni were allies of the Kadohadacho tribe. This means they were friends and worked together. This was in the late 1600s.
What Happened to Them?
After Sieur de la Salle's expedition, there are no more records of the Doustioni tribe. It's like they disappeared from history. We don't know what happened to them. They might have joined other tribes. Or they might have died out.
