Dow is a small place in Jersey County, Illinois, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it does not have its own local government like a city or town.
How Dow Started
Dow was first planned and built in 1883. This happened when a railroad line was built to reach that area. The community got its name from a person named John McDow, who helped start it.
Schools in Dow
For many years, students in Dow went to schools run by the public Jersey Community Unit School District 100. This school district serves students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. Dow used to have its own school called Dow Elementary School. However, this school closed in June 2011. It closed because the school district made changes to how its schools were organized.
