History of Carlson Park
This land wasn't always a park. Long ago, it was used for horse racing and then for car races! But in 1927, the leaders of Culver City decided to turn it into the city's very first park.
From Victory Park to Carlson Park
When it first opened, the park was called Victory Park. The mayor's wife thought it was a big "victory" to finally have a park in the city! However, after Dr. Carlson's death, the park was renamed to honor him and his important work.
Over the years, Carlson Park has been updated many times. The Culver City Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services works hard to keep it nice. They've added new things, like a modern bathroom building, to make the park even better for visitors.
