Drivers is a small, quiet place located in Jefferson County, in the state of Illinois, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Jefferson County.

What is an Unincorporated Community?

An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it's not officially a city or a village. These areas are usually managed by the county government. For example, the county might handle things like roads, police, and fire services. Drivers is one such community in Illinois.

The Story Behind Drivers' Name

The community of Drivers has an interesting history connected to its name. In 1888, a special building called a post office was opened there. A post office is where people send and receive mail. The very first person in charge of this post office was named James R. Driver. He was called the "postmaster." Because he was the first postmaster, the community was named after him! The post office stayed open for many years, until 1907.
