DuBois Pioneer Home facts for kids
The DuBois Pioneer Home is a very old and special house in Jupiter, Florida. People also call it the House on the Hill. It was built way back in 1898 for a couple named Harry and Susan DuBois. This house and the ancient mound it sits on are important historical sites. They are listed together as the Jupiter Inlet Historic and Archeological Site on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are recognized as important parts of history for the whole country.
The house became owned by Palm Beach County in 1972. It had to close in 2008 because of damage from strong storms (hurricanes). But don't worry, it was fixed up and opened again to visitors in 2016! It's thought to be the second oldest house still standing in Palm Beach County.

Exploring DuBois Park: A Place of History and Fun
DuBois Park is a cool place located right on the Jupiter Inlet in Jupiter, Florida. You can find it at 19075 DuBois Road. This park is special because it's where the DuBois Pioneer Home is, and it also has a history connected to growing pineapples! The park was made even better with restoration work. Because of these improvements, it won an award in 2012 from a group called the National Association of County Parks and Recreation Officials.
The Pineapple Packing House
Inside DuBois Park, you'll find the Pineapple Packing House. This building is even older than the DuBois Pioneer Home! It was built in 1896. This packing house was moved to the park to save it. It sits on the western side of the park. It reminds us of a time when pineapples were a big business in this area.
Another DuBois Family Home
Just south of DuBois Park, there's a smaller house. Harry DuBois's son, Henry, had this cottage built for his mother. This little home stayed in the DuBois family for a very long time, until 2012. It's another piece of the family's history in Jupiter.
