Her Early Life
DuEwa Frazier was born in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up in Queens, New York, and St. Louis, Missouri. Her parents loved art and encouraged her to be creative. They took her to plays, dance shows, and music events.
DuEwa started acting at age five. Her first role was playing Rosa Parks, a famous civil rights leader. She also began dance lessons at age four. She studied dance in New York and later in St. Louis.
Her Education Journey
DuEwa Frazier went to Hampton University. There, she earned a degree in English. Later, she studied at Fordham University. She earned a Master of Science degree in Curriculum & Teaching. This degree focused on how to teach reading and writing.
She also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. This was in Creative Writing from The New School in New York City. While in graduate school, DuEwa taught writing. She worked with students in Brooklyn, New York. She has taught English and theater arts to many different age groups. She even designed lessons to teach poetry to students.
What She Creates
DuEwa Frazier has written many books. These include poetry collections, a children's book, and novels for teens. She also edited an important book called Check the Rhyme: An Anthology of Female Poets & Emcees. This book was nominated for two awards in 2007. It also received an honorable mention in 2010.
DuEwa has performed her own one-woman show. It was called Flash Femininity. This show shared poems about women and self-esteem. She has performed at many places, including The Nuyorican Poet's Café. She was also in a documentary about poetry called “Rhyme and Reason.” DuEwa has acted in plays and even a short film. She loves to perform her poetry with live music.
