DuShon Monique Brown (born November 30, 1968 – died March 23, 2018) was an American actress. She was well-known for her roles as Nurse Katie Welch in the TV show Prison Break. She also played Connie in the NBC series Chicago Fire. She acted in Chicago Fire from 2012 until she passed away in 2018.

Early Life and School

DuShon Monique Brown was born in Chicago on November 30, 1968. Her parents were Zachary M. Brown and Liz Colburn. She went to Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. Later, she earned a master's degree in school counseling from Governors State University.

Before becoming a full-time actress, DuShon worked with students. She was a guidance counselor at Chicago's South Shore International College Preparatory High School. She also worked at Kenwood Academy High School. There, she was a crisis counselor, helping students with difficult situations. She also taught drama.

Her Acting Career

Starting Out in Acting

DuShon Brown loved theater and performed in plays in her hometown for many years. Her first TV role was in 2003. It was a made-for-TV movie called Skin Complex.

From 2005 to 2007, she appeared in the popular show Prison Break. She also had small roles in movies like The Dilemma in 2011. In 2012, she was in the romantic comedy film One Small Hitch.

Starring in Chicago Fire

In 2012, DuShon Brown joined the cast of Chicago Fire. She played the character of Connie. Connie was a secretary at the firehouse. DuShon said that Connie was like a mother or aunt to the younger team members. She saw herself as a caring figure for them.

DuShon loved playing Connie. She once said that she was just a "goofy, geeky Chicagoan." She enjoyed playing the violin and singing karaoke. She also dreamed of playing a superhero in movies! Because of her background in counseling, a reporter once asked if she would like a spin-off show. It would be called Chicago Ed or Chicago Shelter. DuShon said she would love to be an actress and a consultant for such a show.

Other Roles

DuShon Brown also made guest appearances in other TV shows. In 2012, she was in Boss. In 2013, she appeared in Shameless. She also acted in films like Unexpected in 2015. That same year, she was in A Light Beneath Their Feet.

In 2015, she guest-starred on the hit show Empire. Later, in 2017, she was in Electric Dreams. She also appeared in the comedy film Surprise Me! in 2017. Her last role was in a 2017 made-for-TV movie called Public Housing Unit.

Her Family and Passing

DuShon Brown had one daughter named Zoe. She also had a brother, Zachary Brown Jr., and two sisters, Zaire King and Jamyra Siek.

DuShon passed away on March 23, 2018, at St. James Olympia Fields Hospital. She had been experiencing some health issues. Her passing was due to health complications.
