The Dulwich Outdoor Gallery (DOG) is a special collection of street art in south London. These artworks are inspired by famous old paintings found in the Dulwich Picture Gallery. The DOG was started by Ingrid Beazley, who was a big supporter of street art.

In 2013, the Dulwich Street Art Festival took place to show off these amazing artworks. It was a team effort between the Dulwich Picture Gallery's education department and Street Art London. The Dulwich Outdoor Gallery features many murals painted by artists from all over the world. These murals are based on Baroque paintings from the Dulwich Picture Gallery's collection. You can find these artworks in different spots around Dulwich.

In 2012, the street artist Stik worked with Ingrid Beazley from Dulwich Picture Gallery. They recreated classic art pieces on the streets of Dulwich. By 2013, other street artists joined in to create the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery. These artists included Conor Harrington, MadC, Mear One, Thierry Noir, Nunca, Phlegm, Reka One, Remi Rough and System, and ROA. Some of these street artists were later asked to create artworks for book covers.

What is the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery?

The Dulwich Outdoor Gallery is like an open-air museum. It brings beautiful art out of the gallery and onto the streets. This way, everyone can enjoy it for free. The project helps people see how old art can inspire new and exciting creations.

How the Gallery Started

The idea for the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery began with Ingrid Beazley. She wanted to connect the classic art inside the Dulwich Picture Gallery with modern street art. This unique idea helped make art more accessible and fun for everyone.

Artists and Their Inspirations

Many talented street artists have contributed to the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery. Each artist chose a Baroque painting from the Dulwich Picture Gallery. They then created their own modern version of it as a mural. This shows how art from different times can still connect and inspire.
