Dulwich Outdoor Gallery facts for kids
The Dulwich Outdoor Gallery (DOG) is a special collection of street art in south London. These artworks are inspired by famous old paintings found in the Dulwich Picture Gallery. The DOG was started by Ingrid Beazley, who was a big supporter of street art.
In 2013, the Dulwich Street Art Festival took place to show off these amazing artworks. It was a team effort between the Dulwich Picture Gallery's education department and Street Art London. The Dulwich Outdoor Gallery features many murals painted by artists from all over the world. These murals are based on Baroque paintings from the Dulwich Picture Gallery's collection. You can find these artworks in different spots around Dulwich.
In 2012, the street artist Stik worked with Ingrid Beazley from Dulwich Picture Gallery. They recreated classic art pieces on the streets of Dulwich. By 2013, other street artists joined in to create the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery. These artists included Conor Harrington, MadC, Mear One, Thierry Noir, Nunca, Phlegm, Reka One, Remi Rough and System, and ROA. Some of these street artists were later asked to create artworks for book covers.
