Dumitru Munteanu (born 3 July 1932 – died 19 June 2020) was a Romanian footballer. He played as a forward and midfielder. He was known for his amazing dribbling skills.

Early Life and Club Beginnings
Dumitru Munteanu was born in Bucharest, Romania. He grew up in a place called Dămăroaia. Dumitru played football from a young age with his twin brother, Anton Munteanu. They were both very good at dribbling the ball.
Dumitru started his youth football career at a local club in Dămăroaia. Later, he played for Laromet București. For a very short time, he was also with CCA Cluj.
Joining Gloria Bistrița
In 1952, Dumitru joined Gloria Bistrița. He helped this team try to get promoted to a higher league called Divizia B in 1954. However, they did not win the play-off match.
First Division Debut
Dumitru made his first appearance in Romania's top football league, Divizia A, on 6 May 1955. He played for CCA București. His team lost that game 1–0 against Flamura Roșie Arad. This was his only league game for CCA București.
Playing for Petrolul Ploiești
In 1956, Dumitru Munteanu moved to Petrolul Ploiești. He spent nine seasons with this club. This was a very successful time for him.
Winning League Titles
Dumitru helped Petrolul Ploiești win two Divizia A titles.
- The first title was in the 1957–58 season. He played in 11 matches and scored three goals that season.
- The second title was in the 1965–66 season. He played in 3 matches during this championship season.
A Difficult Time and a Special Nickname
In 1958, Dumitru and his brother faced a difficult time. They were temporarily stopped from playing football by the government at the time. However, after one year, they were allowed to play again.
In 1961, Petrolul played a friendly match against a famous Brazilian team, Grêmio Porto Alegre. Petrolul won the game 4–3. Dumitru and his brother played so well that they were nicknamed "The Brazilians."
Cup Victory and Final Games
Dumitru also helped The Yellow Wolves (Petrolul's nickname) win the 1962–63 Cupa României, which is Romania's main football cup.
His last game in Divizia A for Petrolul Ploiești was on 8 May 1966. It was a 2–1 home victory against CSMS Iași.
Overall, Dumitru Munteanu played 136 matches and scored 19 goals in Divizia A. He also played 19 matches and scored six goals in the Cupa României. In European club competitions, he played 11 games, including 7 matches in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
Dumitru Munteanu passed away on 19 June 2020, at the age of 87.
Playing for Romania
Dumitru Munteanu played one game for the Romanian national team. This happened in 1962 during a friendly match against East Germany. He came into the game in the 25th minute, replacing another player. Romania lost the match 3–2.
